Accounting

The syllabus covers topics such as the recording of financial information, accounting principles and control systems, and the preparation of final accounts for a variety of different organisations and businesses.

Business Studies

The syllabus covers economic, environmental, ethical, governmental, legal, social and technological issues, and encourages a critical understanding of organisations, the markets they serve and the process of adding value. Students examine the management of organisations and, in particular, the process of decision-making in a dynamic external environment.

Chinese

Students will learn how to use the language in a variety of situations. They will be expected to handle texts and other source materials, extracting information in order to respond to specific tasks. accuracy and confidence in the language. Students will also learn how to translate material from English into the language.

Classical Studies

A Level Classical Studies provides students with an understanding of the civilisations of ancient Greece and Rome, and an appreciation of the diversity of the Classical world.

Computing

Students develop the skills necessary to apply their understanding to the development of computer-based solutions. As they progress, students learn about the main principles of systems analysis and design, looking at different methods of problem formulation, and the planning of solutions. They also consider systematic methods of solution implementation, testing and documentation.

Divinity

The Divinity syllabus covers three core areas. In the first, The Prophets of the Old Testament, students gain an understanding of the way the prophets maintained the religious faith of Ancient Israel, while also studying a significant part of the Jewish and Christian Bibles. Students consider pre-canonical prophets, pre-exilic prophets, and study and comment on specific passages.

Economics

The syllabus covers a range of basic economic ideas, including an introduction to the price system and government intervention, international trade and exchange rates, the measurement of employment and inflation, and the causes and consequences of inflation. Students also study the price system, the theory of the firm, market failure, macroeconomic theory and policy, and economic growth and development.

English Language

A Level English is designed for students who can already communicate effectively in English as it may be their mother tongue or second language. The A Level English syllabus enables students to achieve greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in the language as it is spoken and written, thereby also improving their communication skills.

English Literature

A Level English is designed for students who can already communicate effectively in English as it may be their mother tongue or second language. Students will learn how to improve their use of English in a variety of situations, understanding how to read texts and other source materials, and how to extract information, initiate conversations and respond to questions both orally and in writing.

French

Students will learn how to use the language in a variety of situations. They will be expected to handle texts and other source materials, extracting information in order to respond to specific tasks.

General Paper

The syllabus encourages in candidates the ability to make cross-curricular links; to develop a maturity of thought appropriate to students at this level; and to achieve an understanding and usage of the English language which enables them to express arguments, ideas and opinions in a reflective and academic manner.

Geography

The syllabus considers a range of environments, from tropical to arid, and students can also study subjects such as environmental management, global interdependence and economic transition.e greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in the language.

Global Perspectives

Cambridge International A Level Global Perspectives prepares learners for positive engagement with our rapidly changing world. Learners develop research, thinking, reasoning and communication skills by following an approach to analysing and evaluating arguments and perspectives called the Critical Path.

History

The flexible and wide-ranging syllabus covers six periods, ranging from the history of the Caribbean from 1794 to 1900, to international history from 1945 to 1991. Students can also study periods from European, Asian, African and American history.

Law

The main aim of the A Level Law syllabus is to provide students with an introduction to the main principles of the law as it is practised in England and Wales. As a result, students build their knowledge and understanding of the English legal system, and develop a critical awareness of its structure, personnel and operation.

Marine Science

The content of the course concentrates on the scientific study of the sea, its ecosystems, human activities that depend on the sea and have an impact on it. A Level Marine Science can form part of an ideal subject combination for students who want to study Marine Biology or Environmental Science at university or to follow a career in shipping, fisheries, tourism or aquaculture.

Maths

A Level Mathematics builds on the skills acquired at IGCSE (or equivalent) level. The syllabus allows Centres flexibility to choose from three different routes to A Level Mathematics - Pure Mathematics only or Pure Mathematics and Mechanics or Pure Mathematics and Probability and Statistics.

Psychology

The syllabus reflects the five core areas of psychology, namely cognitive, social, physiological, developmental and the psychology of individual differences; it also relates psychology to education, health, organisations, the environment and abnormality.

Sociology

The study of sociology stimulates awareness of contemporary social, cultural and political issues, and focuses on the importance of examining these issues in a rigorous, reasoned and analytical way.

Spanish

Students will learn how to use the language in a variety of situations. Through their studies, students can expect to achieve greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in the language.

Thinking Studies

The Thinking Skills syllabus encourages free and open debate, critical and investigative thinking, and informed and disciplined reasoning.

Travel and Tourism

This syllabus encourages students to appreciate the scale and importance of the travel and tourism industry in the world and recognise the positive and negative impacts the industry may have on people, environments and economies.
